The course is designed to provide realistic fire ground working conditions, requiring the student to learn as a team member the limitations of their equipment. Course activities are designed to teach team building through intensive activities that include attack hose evolutions and multiple search team rescues.
Upon completion of the Smoke Divers course the student will return to their department with an added sense of confidence in their abilities and equipment. Tactics learned can be shared with other members to enhance the safety of fellow firefighters and the population that they serve.
The student will also be awarded the Alabama Smoke Divers certification and patch.
Rapid Intervention Team
This three-day course is designed to familiarize students with the rapid intervention team concept and give them the tools to develop or enhance their rapid intervention team programs. Rapid intervention is necessary not only for the fire service but should be considered by an emergency response organization whose personnel enter environments that can place their lives and health in immediate danger. All emergency responders and personnel who may act as incident commanders at emergency incidents should be familiar with rapid intervention concepts so they can effectively use this risk management tool.
This course is a combination of classroom, drill field activities, and scenarios. Activities include firefighter survival techniques as well as firefighter rescues. Mayday procedures are stressed throughout the week and lead into the scenarios. The scenarios create a realistic approach that will combine multiple RIT teams and victims. Incident command will be established to provide training for every rank.
This is a great training opportunity for volunteer firefighters as well as career personnel.
This is a physically demanding course that requires the learner to be in full PPE for extended periods of time. Activities will be conducted in limited visibility and moderate heat condition
