Alabama Administrative Code 360-X-1-.01 provides that: |
| 1. The commission may elect to give credit for training received in other states providing such training has been approved or accredited in the state where the training was received.
2. The commission may elect to prescribe as a condition for certification:
|
| |
(i) (ii) |
Applying the state examination for appropriate level. Supplementary training as required to fulfill areas of training not covered in previous training. |
3. The Commission may enter into standing reciprocity compacts or agreements with those states which by law regulate and supervise the quality of fire service training. |
According to the Administrative Code the
application must be received from "the chief officer of a municipal, county,
state, federal or private sector fire fighting agency within the state of
Alabama."
In applying these provisions for certification at the level of Fire Fighter I, when an application for reciprocity is received, we evaluate the training of the applicant, not the current certification. This is set out in Provision 1 above and specifically states that the Commission may give credit for training received.
The training must have been conducted by a facility that is recognized by a ProBoard or IFSAC accredited certification body.
If the applicant received at least 360 hours of mandated training as a condition of certification, we compare the number of hours of training in subject areas, and verify that the applicant meets all other requirements set forth in the Administrative Code, including:
|
| |
He or she is 18 years of age or older He or she is physically fit to perform as a fire fighter He or she has a High School Diploma or GED |
| If all of the above are met, the applicant is allowed to challenge the examination for certification at that level. It should be noted also that the applicant must demonstrate core competencies for NFPA 472: Hazardous Materials A&O, which is tested in a separate examination if documentation of certification at that level is not provided.
We understand that reciprocity standards are high and, as a result, few individuals will qualify. We make no apologies for assured quality and safety of firefighters in our state.
|
|
For all levels above Fire Fighter I, we do not "issue over" certifications from other states. Rather, we accept ProBoard or IFSAC accredited certifications as prerequisites for entry into next level training courses. |
